Health Improvement Practitioner (HIP) / Health Coach (HC)
The HIP can see people of all ages and stages of life to support with making changes for their well-being. Using a behavioural approach to health and wellbeing. We deliver focused brief interventions. The HIP can offer same-day appointments, no need to see a GP or Nurse first.
This is a free service. The HIP is available on a Tuesday (morning) and all-day Wednesday. Appointments can be made through Reception.
Some of the area’s the HIP can help with are:
- Alcohol or drug use
- Nutrition
- Anxiety
- Physical Activity
- Coping with chronic illness
- Relationship problems
- Feeling stuck or worried
- Sleep
- Grief
- Stress
- Living well with pain
Health Coaches are part of the wider health care team and can help support you with your health and wellbeing goals. The Health Coach can work with people over the age of 18, not only in the practice, but also out in the community.
Health Coaches can help with goal setting, implementing lifestyle changes to help manage your diabetes, high cholesterol and blood pressure. They can also help with physical activity, managing stress and helping you connect with community supports you may need.
This is a free service, the Health Coach is available on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. Appointments can be made through Reception.
GP / Nurse Services
Our GPs offer all the services you would expect of a practicing health professional in New Zealand. Below is a list of health and medical services we provide.
- ACC consults
- Medication reviews
- Mole & skin checks
- Minor surgery or referrals to specialists when required
- Specialist referrals
- Acute injuries
- Men’s health checks
- Women’s health checks
- Early pregnancy services

- End of life and palliative care
A Nurse is available by appointment to provide health care services, including:
- Childhood & other immunisations
- Cervical screening
- ECG
- Dry ice treatment
- Dressings & removal of sutures
- Blood pressure checks
- Pregnancy tests
- Reviews – Diabetes / Asthma / COPD / Cardiovascular
- Smoking cessation
- Phlebotomy (blood taking)
- Mini-Addenbrooke’s cognitive examination (Mini-ACE)
Other Services
We do not want language differences to be a barrier to your care.
- Please let us know in advance if you will need an interpreter to help with your consultation.
- We use a telephone interpreter service where this is required.
- Making arrangements in advance with the service is preferable.
- We can access interpreters for most languages.
- This may be through ‘Interpreting New Zealand’
– These services are confidential.
Alternatively, you are welcome to bring a family or friend to help with communication if this is your preference.
Do you want a support person with you during your appointment?
- All patients have a right to a chaperone with them for any appointment.
- The chaperone can be a family member, friend or a member of staff.
- If you want a member of staff to accompany you please let the receptionist know when you arrive for your appointment.
